"If the teenage thrill seekers today really want a thrill,
let them go to the Northwest and tangle with a grizzly
bear, a polar bear, or a brown bear. They will get their
thrill, and it will cleanse their soul."

Deer Camp 1997
Deer camp 97 was tons of fun as usual, but the deer sightings were down considerably this
year. Our whole camp only saw one deer on opener. We were hunting in Menominee
county in Michigans Upper Peninsula. Camps around ours had the same comments
when we talked to them. I love being in the beautiful isolated swamps of the U.P. even
though the chances are less then lower Michigan. We had some trouble on the way up
with the wood trailer. We blew a bearing out and had to have the spindle replaced by
a local farmer/machinist guy (see the pictures below).
We saw sparks flying off the tire on the way up. We just took it off and continued the adventure.
With two wood stoves this year, the tent was as warm as we wanted it to be. We were ready for old
man winter this time!
All in all it was thumbs up in the U.P. again this year!
